Common Questions About Counseling
Starting therapy often comes with questions — and that’s completely natural. This page is here to provide clear answers to some of the most common concerns clients have when beginning counseling. If you don’t see your question here, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d be happy to talk with you and make sure you feel comfortable and informed as you take this important step.
What types of clients do you work with?
I work with both adults and adolescents, supporting those navigating trauma, substance use, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relationship challenges.
What is EMDR therapy, and how does it help?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps process and heal from traumatic memories. It allows the brain to reframe difficult experiences so they no longer feel as overwhelming.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply want a safe space to process life’s challenges, therapy can help. Our first session is a chance to explore your needs and see if we’re a good fit.
Do you offer telehealth or online sessions?
Yes. I provide HIPAA-compliant online counseling sessions so you can access therapy from the comfort of your home if you prefer.
What can I expect during the first session?
The first session is about getting to know each other. We’ll talk about your goals, what brought you to therapy, and how I can best support you. It’s also a time for you to ask questions and see if you feel comfortable with me.
How often will I need to come to therapy?
Every client’s journey is unique. Some people come weekly, others biweekly or monthly. We’ll work together to find a rhythm that feels right for your needs and goals.
Do you accept insurance?
At this time, I [accept/submit claims to certain insurance providers OR provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement]. (UPDATE RQUIRED, NEEDS INPUT)
How long are sessions?
Most sessions are 50 minutes, though certain types of therapy, such as EMDR, may sometimes require longer sessions depending on your needs.
Is everything I share in therapy confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is protected by law and is a priority in our work together. The only exceptions are if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or as required by law.
What if I’m nervous about starting therapy?
That’s completely normal. Many clients feel anxious at first. My role is to create a safe, supportive space where you can move at your own pace.
